As someone who has been more of a TV person than a movie person, I felt perpetually behind on seeing any movie that wasn’t made by Marvel or DC in a timely manner. Even then, I would still pick and choose which were worth seeing in theaters. That all changed once Moviepass was brought to my attention. Just under $10 a month and I can see a movie a day? Count me in.
Anyone who signed up for Moviepass within the last year or so is well aware of how difficult the app was becoming to use as the company was bleeding money. For me, though, it was a fantastic way to get me back into the movie theaters in a way that I had never been before.
Movies I normally wouldn’t have seen in theaters like Lady Bird and Love, Simon were movies that I ended up greatly enjoying. Seeing them in theaters was a much better experience than seeing them later at home on a set up that is certainly not theater quality.
Despite Moviepass struggling and me ultimately canceling the service, it gave me a love for going to the movies that I never had before. Luckily, just as Moviepass was waning for me, AMC Stubs A-List was recommended to me. Sure, it’s twice the price of Moviepass and you can’t see a movie a day, but it’s more than enough for my movie-going habits.
With AMC Stubs A-List, I can see three movies a week and in multiple formats. One IMAX matinee ticket is almost what the service cost for an entire month. The $19.95 has been more than worth it so far and I’m over a month into using the service.
As someone who had been struggling on the job front for quite some time, I didn’t want to completely give up entertainment and Moviepass gave me the opportunity to see more for less. For that, I thank them. But now AMC Stubs A-List has my money and if you have an AMC near you, it’s a great option to consider. You can also buy more than one ticket at a time through the app and they’ll just deduct a ticket if you check the circle to have it use one for your A-List membership. The app runs better than Moviepass’ did and you can’t really beat $5 Tuesdays if you want to take someone else to the movie with you, too.
While AMC Stubs A-List isn’t the only Moviepass alternative out there (Sinemia is a popular competitor), it’s the one that made the most sense for me based on where I’m located. You can get into movies on a more regular basis without breaking your budget and I plan to continue doing so. I’ve even learned to love movies more because of it and it’s been a wonderful experience so far.
